Legacy Lightning Marching Band

The marching band is a co-curricular part of each of the band classes (wind ensemble, symphonic winds, symphonic band and concert band) and is required if you are in band. The only exception to this rule is if a student participates in a fall school sport. If a student participates in a school fall sport, they will be exempt from marching band but will be given make-up assignments that will replace the grades of the marching band performances. Practices begin in May and last throughout the summer. Marching season continues throughout the first quarter of the school year. During the fall, the marching band typically rehearses on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays after school (if there is no football game) and Saturdays all day when there is no contest. Percussion and Color Guard will set any extra rehearsals with Instructors as necessary. Performances for the Marching Band include but are not limited to all home varsity football games, pep rallies, parades, and marching competitions throughout the season. The Wind Ensemble is an advanced course and will involve students who are highly proficient on their instruments. Auditions are held for chair placement and membership. The course requires serious dedication and practice. Rehearsals are held during school with sectionals, rehearsals, and clinics being scheduled regularly outside of the school day. Attendance at extra sectionals, rehearsals, and clinics is MANDATORY. The Wind Ensemble also performs at a number of concerts and competitions throughout the school year. Attendance for concerts and competitions is also mandatory.

All students in this ensemble will participate in Marching Band during the 1st quarter and a portion of 2nd quarter. All students in Wind Ensemble ARE REQUIRED to be a part of the Marching Band. This ensemble will emphasize the advanced development of playing and performance skills used to perform advanced band literature. Practice sessions, sectionals, and performances are held outside the school day and it is required for the student to attend. This ensemble will participate in concerts, clinics, contests, festivals, parades, home football games, and some basketball games. Students are expected to purchase their own marching shoes, a show t-shirt, and a band polo shirt. (Cost will not exceed $50.) Other requirements include, but are not limited to: Attendance at all after school rehearsals, Participation in Summer Band Camps, Performance at all home football games Performance at all scheduled marching competitions and Performances including parades and other events. Prerequisite: All students will audition for placement in the Legacy Band Classes. Previous playing experience is required. Audition of all new students is required.

Attendance at extra sectionals, rehearsals, and clinics is mandatory. The Concert Band also performs at concerts throughout the school year. Attendance for concerts is also mandatory.

All incoming 9th grade band students should sign up for this class. No audition is required for freshmen. All students in this ensemble will participate in Marching Band during the 1st quarter and a portion of 2nd quarter. All students in Concert Band ARE REQUIRED to be a part of the Marching Band. Only students with school related conflicts will be exempt from participating in Marching Band. (Contact Dr. Ebert for details). This course is designed for musicians needing continued development of fundamental playing skills including: rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic skills, fingerings, scales, embouchure, posture, breathing, etc. This ensemble also emphasizes the continued development of several differing musical styles using a variety of band literature. Rehearsals are held during school with extra sectionals, rehearsals, and clinics being scheduled outside of the school day. Attendance at extra sectionals, rehearsals, and clinics is mandatory. The Concert Band also may perform in concerts, clinics, festivals, and competitions throughout the school year. Attendance for concerts and competitions is also mandatory. Students are expected to purchase their own black shoes and socks to go with their marching and concert uniforms. Students are expected to purchase their own marching shoes, a show t-shirt, and a band polo shirt. (Cost will not exceed $50.) Other requirements include, but are not limited to: Attendance at all after school rehearsals, Participation in Summer Band Camps, Performance at all home football games, Performance at all scheduled marching competitions and performances including parades and other events. Jazz Band membership is determined by audition. In order to participate in Jazz Band, you do not need to be registered for another band class. Rehearsals are held during school with extra sectionals, rehearsals, and clinics being scheduled from time to time outside of the school day. Attendance at extra sectionals, rehearsals, and clinics is mandatory. The Jazz Band also performs at concerts throughout the school year. Attendance for concerts is also mandatory.

This class will emphasize development of jazz playing and performance skills, using a variety of advanced literature. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the following: Jazz notation, Jazz articulation, Improvisation, Jazz solos, various musical styles Students will be expected to perform in concerts, festivals, and clinics. Some practices, sectionals, and performances are held outside the school day and it is required for the student to attend. Each student is required to purchase his or her own concert attire. (Cost will not exceed $50.) Prerequisites: Previous jazz playing experience is required. This is an Audition ONLY class. Only Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones, Guitar, Piano, Bass, and Percussion may audition for this ensemble. You do not need to be enrolled in another Band Class to participate in Jazz Band.

Pep band is REQUIRED for every member of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band and Concert Band. Students will be assigned to perform at basketball games and other designated events by the director. Rehearsals will be after school or before events as needed. Any student in the school is eligible to be in the Color Guard or Winter Guard. The Color Guard performs as an auxiliary unit to the Marching Band during the marching season and becomes the Winter Guard after the marching season is finished. Practices are held both during school time and outside of school time.

The Percussion section performs as a part of the Marching Band, part of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic and Concert Bands, and as the Percussion Ensemble. Practices are held both during school time and outside of school time. You must be a member of the Jazz Band, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band or Concert Band in order to be eligible to be a part of the Percussion Ensemble
