Mr. Trey Tafoya is the Director of Orchestras and Assistant Director of Bands at Legacy High School. Previously, Mr. Tafoya taught at Horizon High School in Thornton, Colorado, Longs Peak Middle School in Longmont, Colorado, and Rangeview High School in Aurora, Colorado. While at Rangeview, Mr. Tafoya directed the concert bands, orchestras, marching band, winter percussion, and pit orchestra musicals. The Rangeview bands and orchestras grew significantly in size under the direction of Mr. Tafoya and were consistently recognized for excellence at competitions and festivals.

Mr. Tafoya received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree and Master of Music in Music Education Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. He was the Drum Major of the “Pride of the Rockies Marching Band” at UNC where he taught visual marching technique and arranged music for the band. While at UNC, Mr. Tafoya was an active hornist performing in the Wind Ensemble and UNC Symphony Orchestra. He currently plays in the Rocky Mountain Horn Ensemble and frequently subs in community orchestras and bands throughout the Front Range. Mr. Tafoya also performed with the world-renowned Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps during their 2013 production, “Les Misérables”. His principal teachers include Dr. Richard Mayne, Dr. Mark Montemayor, and Marian Hesse.

Professionally, Mr. Tafoya maintains an active teaching schedule outside of school. He teaches leadership skills and conducting techniques to high school students at the Command the Field Drum Major & Leadership Summer Camps. Mr. Tafoya also teaches at the Colorado Masonic Band Camp each summer. He holds memberships in many organizations including Colorado Bandmasters Association, Colorado Music Educators Association, American String Teachers Association, and National Association for Music Education. He has given presentations to Music Education students at the University of Northern Colorado and Metropolitan State University of Denver. Mr. Tafoya has conducted and given clinics for numerous middle school, high school, and community bands and orchestras around Colorado.

Mr. Tafoya lives in Thornton, Colorado with his wife Marissa.
