Greetings,
I apologize that this update is so overdue. I have been waiting on the district to make a decision on what will be allowed through June, but since no decision has been published at this time, wanted to get you an update concerning next week. The dates next week will be cancelled for in-person camps. However, we will need to meet virtually with all students on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. We will publish the Zoom meeting details on the Marching Band Google Classroom on Monday. If a student does not have access to the Google Classroom, please email me as soon as possible and I will make sure they get an invitation. Please include the student’s Adams 12 email address in the email as they will only be able to access it through that email address.
Moving forward, we will be posting videos for students so that they can learn the marching techniques and stretching routines that are required for marching band. Also, we will be posting “assignments” on a weekly basis and section leaders will be meeting with their sections virtually to listen to the students individually and help them with their marching. The students also will be participating in virtual meetings with all brass, all woodwinds, all percussion, and all colorguard. These meetings will happen at least once a week and will be set up by the respective instructors.
All of these meetings are optional, but we are 6 weeks behind in instruction at this point, so it will be important that students attend these meetings so that they can get as caught up as possible (even if you are on vacation, we encourage you to Zoom into the meetings if at all possible). We will use these meetings to gauge interest and measure progress over time. Students will need to submit an official marching band audition by July 13th (or we will do this audition live on the 13th, 14th and 15th if we are able to be in-person at that time) and this audition will determine if the student earns a spot in the competition marching show or if they are a part of the alternate line for the fall season.
At this point, we are moving forward as if there will be a marching season in the fall. Students will be receiving their show music soon and we will be doing a show reveal at the end of next week. More information to come via the Google Classroom. Also, as of today (FRIDAY, MAY 29TH AT 2:30 PM) until the district instructs us otherwise, there will be no in-person instruction or meetings with students or instructors. Please respect this and do not meet as groups in-person. This could have very detrimental consequences on the rest of the summer and the up-coming school year.
Thank you all for your continued patience. I know we are all frustrated by the current situation, but we need to focus on moving forward as best as we can, and right now the only way to do that is virtually. These have been very trying times and I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we navigate these unprecedented circumstances.
Sincerely,
Mr. Stansberry
