Good Morning,
The staff and I met this morning and discussed the announcement that was sent out July 7. We all agreed that only the competitive marching season is currently cancelled and that we should move forward with continuing marching band in some way, shape or form! We do not currently know what that will be or look like, but we are examining all possible options so that we can continue to build our skills through the fall quarter of the school year. That being said, we would like to continue with the planned meetings in-person for the next 3 Mondays (July 13, 20, 27) and we will be cancelling the rehearsals on Tuesday, July 14th and Wednesday, July 15th. Next Monday, July 13th, we will follow the schedule that is listed on the Google Classroom with 1 change: the Front Ensemble percussion will now meet in 1 group from 10:30 to Noon. There will not be any auditions this next week either. We will be looking at the schedule for July 20th and 27th and will update as needed if we move to Phase III of being back together. If we remain in Phase II, the schedule will be similar to July 13th. At this time, the August Mandatory Band Camp is To Be Determined, but please keep these dates reserved for band camp at this time. As soon as we know exactly what it will be, we will let you know. Also, here are some reminders for next week and moving forward:
1. Please see the Self-Screening Log here (Spanish version is here). Make sure you print this and complete it on a daily basis BEFORE you come to band as it may be requested by the health department if there were ever to be a case reported within the band.
2. Bad Weather Plan: We will move inside to an area large enough to accommodate social distancing for the groups (i.e. Large Gym). If a large enough area is not available, students who drive will be permitted to leave and students who do not drive will get in touch with their parents to come and get them. Students MUST wear a mask in order to enter the building. And, as a reminder, each student MUST have a mask with them during practices.
3. Also, as a reminder, being in-person is OPTIONAL and not required. If you are in town, you asked to participate in-person or be on the Zoom call (section leaders will put out Zoom call information). If you are out-of-town, you will need to contact your section leader to see what you missed. If you DO NOT plan to participate in-person, please let Mr. Stansberry know before the practice on Monday, July 13th.
And finally, next Tuesday, July 14th, we will have a Zoom call in the morning with just the Seniors to discuss marching band and moving forward to get their input as they are the most affected by this announcement. I will put that information out to the drum majors and they will send it to all the seniors. I am looking forward to seeing you all next week and just being together again! I hope you are all safe and healthy.
Mr. Stansberry
