Students, Parents, and Supporters of the Legacy Band Program,
The Colorado Bandmasters Association Marching Band Committee, which oversees all aspects of the marching band activity in Colorado, held a meeting tonight to discuss the continuation of the 2020 Marching Band season. In a recent survey conducted by the Marching Committee 84% of band directors responded and asked that a decision be made as soon as possible concerning the 2020 season. The Marching Committee met this evening and unanimously voted to cancel the 2020 marching band competitive season. While this is extremely upsetting, I whole-heartedly agree with and support the decision by the committee. There are no options for the fall season that will allow safe and unrestricted rehearsals, safe and unrestricted travel, and/or marching events that are safe for students, directors, staff, boosters, workers, judges, and spectators. It is what is right for student’s safety, as well as parent safety, staff safety, relative’s safety, judge safety, etc. There are also many other concerns over transportation, venue decisions about admissions, different schools being shut down at different times due to COVID-19, etc. Unfortunately, it is the right decision to make at this time.
I wish I could be there with all of your right now, to tell everyone this in person and to help you all through this very difficult announcement. I didn’t want you to hear this on the news or through social media – I wanted you to hear it from me. Please know that the staff and I will be meeting to discuss next steps moving forward and what we can do to help all students through this. I miss you all and can’t wait until we are back together again making music.
